Chartres Software Limited

Software for the systems you live with.

Chartres Software Limited is a New Zealand company building mobile software for vehicle and off-grid systems. Our first app is Afterburner.

Afterburner

Afterburner is a mobile app for controlling and monitoring a diesel air heater from your phone. It connects to your heater controller over your own network and gives you the things that matter when you are living with one of these: turn it on and off, set the target temperature, run a timer, and watch what the heater is actually doing while it runs.

It reports fuel use, run state, glow plug and fan behaviour, supply voltage, and the fault codes the heater generates, so you can tell the difference between a heater that is starting normally and one that is about to fail to light.

Afterburner is built for people who live aboard buses, vans, boats and cabins, where the heater is not a convenience and a cold night with no heat is a real problem.

How it works

The app talks to your heater over a private, encrypted messaging channel provisioned for your account alone. Readings pass through in real time and are not stored — we keep no history of how you run your heater. Because a heater can be controlled by more than one means, the app never assumes it holds the truth: it asks the heater directly on opening, on returning to the foreground, and at intervals while running.

You sign in with Apple or Google, so there is no password for us to hold. There is no advertising and no tracking in the app at all. What we do hold, and why, is set out plainly in the privacy policy.

Pricing

Afterburner is free to try. After the trial, it continues as a subscription billed through the App Store or Google Play. You can cancel any time from your device's subscription settings. Full details are in the terms of use.
